Teen's passion leaves legacy of animal care

Sophie Evans, 18, died in her sleep on November 7.

She had been involved in Sutterton Veterinary Hospital in one way or another for the past three years through work experience, weekend and holiday work and even going in on her days off from college.

Practice manager Emma Walker said: “She became part of the team.

“Even when she was poorly she came in here. She also worked on her days off.”

The vets has been so touched by Sophie’s death that they have, with the permission of her parents, set up a fund in her name with money raised being used to treat sick and injured animals who visit the surgery without an owner.

A post on the vet’s Facebook page described Sophie, who was from Moulton Seas End, as a ‘lovely, caring, friendly girl who will be dearly missed’.

It said: “All of us at South Lincs Vet Group are still coming to terms with this sad news.

“Sophie’s family have spoken to our practice manager Emma, and have said that they would like any donations made at the funeral to be split between Sutterton Veterinary Hospital and The Poppy Appeal, two things Sophie was extremely passionate about.

“Emma and the staff were overwhelmed and wanted the money to help animals who need it the most, as this is 
what Sophie would have wanted.”

The appeal called Sophie’s Legacy has already had £77 donated by the local Women’s Institute.

A JustGiving page set up to support the effords has also raised more than £85.

Donations are asked to be addressed to the care of Emma.
