The West Street venue has hosted many bands over the years, but announced on Facebook that tonight (Saturday) would be the final gig for the forseeable future.

The venue posted (sic): “Ok sad day today...but this weekend will be the last 2 gigs at the Axe and Cleaver and the venue will be closing it’s doors for the foreseeable future.

“Thankyou to everyone who has supported live music over the last 30 years or so. You guys genuinely ROCK!!!

“But...This weekend let’s go with a BANG!!!!”

It adds: “The FINAL GIG will be a fitting one when Crossfire (ex Bulletooth) will be getting you dancin all night long. So come on down one last time and party with Wes and the lads till the wee hours cos it’s gonna be a cracker.

“So from Bradders and Flazer, Marney and Lyndsey a big thankyou to ALL the bands who have played.”

It concludes: “So come on down for the final time this weekend and let’s ROCK one more time.”
