'˜The hardest draw!' Elliott wants to slay the dragons as underdogs Boston United head to Wrexham in FA Trophy

Craig Elliott couldn't hide his excitement after Boston United were handed a mouthwatering trip to Wrexham in the FA Trophy's first round.

United will head west to North Wales on Saturday, December 15, following Saturday’s 5-0 win at Ashton United.

“It’s probably the hardest draw we could have got but it’s definitely one I’m looking forward to,” said Elliott.

“It’s two massive clubs playing each other, and I’m sure that everyone is excited about going there.”

Elliott already has a good idea of what his side will face against the National League Dragons.

“I was talking to the Harrogate manager (Simon Weaver) recently, and he said that they play some really nice football.

“Hopefully there will be a big crowd and there will be a good turnout from Boston.”

Elliott’s hopes for a big crowd look likely to be granted with gates at the Racecourse Ground up eight percent to 5,014 this season.

Having led Shaw Lane to the FA Cup first round last season, Elliott is again targeting success in knockout action, despite the Pilgrims also looking for promotion from the National League North.

“The Trophy is high on my list of priorities, just behind the FA Cup,” said Elliott, who was incensed after his side were beaten in that competition by Peterborough Sports.

“I’d have preferred a more winnable game in that respect, but it will make a change to go somewhere as underdogs.

Wrexham are currently pushing for a return to the Football League, sitting third in the National League, four points behind leaders Leyton Orient.

It will be the first time that the Pilgrims have faced Wrexham since being relegated from the Football League in 2007.

In may that year Boston headed to Wales in a winner-takes-all contest which would see the winning side stay in League Two and the loser drop out.

The Dragons won 3-1, but followed United into non-league football the following year.

Ex-Pilgrims Shaun Pearson and Christian Dibble are currently in the Wrexham squad.
