The photo (above) was captured by the Visit Lincoln manager Emma Tatlow when she was driving home from work one evening last week.

She told the Horncastle News: “I was just driving home when I saw these vibrant colours at a bus stop in Woodhall Spa.

“When I saw it, I thought it was really good fun and looked really creative. I just couldn’t help but take a quick photo.

“I have no clue why it has been done, but it has certainly brightened up the streets of Woodhall Spa.”

Woodhall Spa Parish Council chair David Clarke thought that the idea was ‘an excellent one.’

He said: “Yes, I know all about the colourful display of wool in Woodhall Spa and I thought it was an excellent idea.

“The Nice Girls of Woodhall Spa Group came forward to the parish council to ask for permission to be able to do it and we were of course, delighted to give them our blessing.

“It all looks very nice, something different for the area and I would like to say a big well done to the ladies for their efforts.”

So what is the story behind all this colourful wool?

Organiser, Karen Turner tells us more.

“Our group, The Nice Girls of Woodhall Spa, formed around eight years ago and for the last seven years, we have put together a Strawberry Tea event to raise funds for Breast Cancer.

“So we always put bras on a hedge in Rose Close to raise awareness and since we recently got this new bus shelter, we thought we would make the extra effort, get our knitting needles out and make the area pink as well.

“I saw some amazing yarn bombing in Thirsk, Yorkshire for the Tour of Yorkshire event, so I thought we could take the idea back to Woodhall Spa and do this on a smaller scale.

“Even though money is still coming in, we have already managed to raise nearly £1,800, a total we are amazed with.”

“A big thank you goes out to The Nice Girls of Woodhall Spa as they work so hard and to everyone who has supported the event.”
