‘The show must go on’ after arson

DEDICATED staff and parents from a Gainsborough nursery that was recently ravaged by an arson attack have fought against adversity to give their children a Christmas party.

The Little Lambs Day nursery Corringham Road, Gainsborough was attacked by arsonists twice between Friday 9th December and Sunday 11th December - with the latter attempt causing ‘devastating’ damage to the building and its contents.

But, with a relentless spirit, staff from the nursery school battled the odds to provide the children with the Christmas party that they deserve.

The party was organised by deputy manager Vicki Knight.

“When I first saw the damage, it was awful,” she said. “I was far worse than I thought it would be.”

“It’s just so terrible to think that someone could do that and ruin and ruin all of the kids’ hard work.”

Vicki continued: “Despite that, we still wanted the Christmas party to go ahead for the children - they shouldn’t suffer any more.”

So, to give the Little Lambs kids a Christmas treat, Vicki and he staff organised a festive spectacular at St George’s Church Hall on Heapham Road in Gainsborough.

“It was absolutely fantastic and it was great to see the children enjoying themselves,” said Vicki.

“We had a bouncy castle and Father Christmas even came along to give the kids some presents.”

She continued: “We also had a big raffle where a lot of parents and local businesses donated prizes, which raised nearly £400 that will go towards the nursery when we’re back up and running.”

Vicki says that it shouldn’t be long before Little Lambs is back in business on their Corrignham Road site and they will be battling on for the children.

“We are determined to get things going again in the New Year - you can’t stop us,” she said.

Vicki added: “I’d like to thank all of the parents for their help and support, and all of the local businesses that have been so kind with donations.”

Police say that they are still hunting the arsonist responsible.

“This was a very serious incident and we are continuing our enquiries,” said a Lincs Police spokesman.

“We would ask for anyone with any information to bring whoever is responsible to justice to please get in touch.”
