There is still time to see an exciting art exhibition in Sleaford

Workshops have been held as part of a major tapestry exhibition currently at National Centre of Craft and Design (NCCD) in Sleaford.

Here and Now aims to challenge the notion that tapestry is a dying craft.

The exhibition features more than 20 artists from places such as Australia, Norway and Japan.

Two artists exhibiting in Here and Now, Ayako Matsumura and Saori Sakai from Japan held workshops at the NCCD.

Laura Pommeret, an international business student from Aix Marseille Grad School of Management acted as a translator for the event. Laura said: “This was an amazing opportunity as I got to combine my two loves - art and language.”

Ayako Matsumura led weaving workshop using wooden looms to create 3D objects from fabric.

Saori Sakai helped visitors to design and make looms from foam board and illustrate designs prior to weaving.

Learning and engagement co-ordinator at NCCD Emma Britton said: “I was really pleased with how the workshops went and the feedback was excellent from the visitors.”

Running them directly in our gallery space was very inspiring for staff and visitors alike.”

Visitor comments were very positive with Kim Wooldridge saying: “I love coming here, as there is always something different to do”,

Another visitor Kelly Barfoot said: “It was like entering into the unknown. But engaging and absorbing. Very creative and different.”
