'They were so kind and caring' - Fundraiser to be held as thank you to children's ward at Boston's Pilgrim Hospital for care and support it provided young girl and family

A fundraiser is to be held in Boston in aid of Pilgrim Hospital’s children’s ward, as a thank you for the care it has given to a young girl from the area and the support shown to her family.
The Christmas disco will be held at The Gliderdrome, in Spain Place, on Saturday (November 29), from 1-5pm.
Kelvin Hallam, 30, of Old Leake, one of the organisers, spoke to The Standard about the inspiration for the event.
He said since his daughter, Isla-Rose, was born in August of last year, she has had numerous stays on the children’s ward as a result of BRUE (Brief Resolved Unexplained Event) episodes. This is where she has suddenly stopped breathing.

The first instance came late last year, Kelvin remembers.
“She was playing with her toys and she just went all floppy,” he said. “She started going blue around her lips.”
Following a call to 999, paramedics were swiftly on the scene to help.
These BRUE episodes continued into 2025. They have not taken place in recent months, though.
Kelvin praised the staff on the children’s ward for the care given to Isla-Rose, but also for the support shown to him and his wife Leah, 27.
“They were so kind and caring,” he said. “They were absolutely amazing.”
And of Isla-Rose, he said: “You have never met a happier baby.”
Kelvin closed by thanking all those who have supported the fundraiser, which is sponsored by Vertu Honda Boston. For details on the event, search for DJ Kellam on Facebook.
