Shaun Day, of Ollerton Road, Ordsall, admitted two thefts when he appeared at Worksop Magistrates’ Court last week.

The court heard that the 46-year-old was caught on CCTV taking a trampoline, worth £99.99 from the front of Home Bargains on 9th March.

Day was again seen on CCTV taking a vacuum cleaner, worth £69, from B&M Bargains on 4th April.

Defence solicitor Jamie Radcliffe said Day had borrowed money from ‘shady characters’ who wanted it back with interest.

“He was taking the items to save his knee caps,” he added.

Magistrates adjourned sentence until Thursday for the preparation of a report from the Probation Service.
