Thorpe Salvin: Residents urged to fight for bus service

Rotherham Bus Partnership plans to discontinue the number 271 bus in the new year, meaning that Thorpe Salvin will no longer have a bus service.

Services from Harthill will also be affected by changes - there will noregular direct service to Sheffield and the new Rotherham route will not go past Rotherham Hospital.

Residents are being urged to give their views on the proposals at a drop-in session at Harthill Village on 7th November, between 4pm and 8pm.

“There aren’t a large number of people in the parish affected by this but those who are will be hit hard. Please consider attending and registering a protest even if you are not a current bus user,” said a parish council spokesman.

SYPTE deputy interim director general, David Young, said: “Our proposals aim to develop a bus network for the town that is reliable, flexible and convenient, and that best meets customer needs. Decisions taken on any changes to Rotherham’s bus services, including alternative services for Thorpe Salvin, will be guided by this customer feedback.”
