That was August, 2014, when thousands of people packed in and around the air base – home of the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight – to witness the Second World War bombers reunited for the first time in 50 years.

‘Thumper’ – the BBMF’s own Lancaster – was joined by ‘Vera’, which flew from Canada especially for the historic and emotional occasion.

Now, people are being offered the chance to watch a film of the event – to be shown in Horncastle on February 8.

The film, Reunion of the Giants, was actually premiered before Christmas at the Kinema in the Woods in Woodhall Spa.

Organisers of the Horncastle showing – at Stanhope Hall – are hoping for a bumper turnout.

Peter Foster, who is helping put the event together, said: “The reunion of the two Lancasters was an absolutely wonderful event and the film tells the full story.

“It is a brilliant record of what happened and I’m sure will appeal to a lot of people.

“It reveals a lot of details about the reunion that haven’t been released before and charts the epic journey of the Canadian Lancaster across the Atlantic.”

The evening starts at 7pm and is intended to be a community event, with displays involving the Lancaster Association, the Air Training Corps and a model flying club.

Tickets costing £3.50 are available from Horncastle Music shop.
