Time is running out to return a vital document in the fight to get a coastal path running alongside a Skegness golf course re-opened.

The path was closed in 1996 after a walker was hit by a golf ball, but pressure to get restrictions lifted is growing.

Skegness Town Council was recently asked for observations to support a Natural England investigation into how to improve coastal access along a 26km stretch between Skegness and Mablethorpe – part of a government-backed £5 million England Coast Path plan.

Deadline for the return of Definitive Map Modification Order (DMMO) forms to Lincolnshire County Council who will discuss the next step is Monday.

Paul Marshall, chairman of Coastal Access for All, who made a plea in the Skegness Standard the path for people to request DMMO forms said there had been a good response.

He said: “ The campaign to get the coastal path re-opened in front of the North Shore Golf Course is gaining momentum.

“Lots of witness forms have gone in and I have received a letter from the county Council stating that they have received many requests for the forms following the article in the Skegness Standard.

“Forms need to be returned by March 14 because after that date they will decide on the next step. It would be great if the volume of forms returned persuades them to hold a public enquiry, “

Chris Miller, team leader at LCC Countryside Services, said: “We’ve sent out around 70 forms so far. Although we’ve only had three back, people do have until March 14 to return them. After that, we’ll be considering all the evidence put forward before making our decision.”

DMMO forms are available from Lincolnshire County Council on 01522 552222. For more information, email Mr Marshall at [email protected]
