Title win for Everton kids

An excellent all-round disciplined performance of batting, bowling and fielding by village school Everton saw them claim victory in the final of the 26th Bassetlaw Primary Schools Cricket Championship.

And to clinch the title they had to do it the hard way, by beating reigning champions, Ryton Park.

Ryton Park, put into bat, lost wickets and found runs hard to come by as the Everton attack displayed no weaknesses.

Last year’s champions were restricted to a total of 125, their lowest of the season.

Everton soon overhauled this target and did not lose a wicket until the last ball of the innings with their score on 147 and with victory already confirmed.

Great credit is due to the team managers, Gina Oakley and Mary Paton for their encouragement and skill in producing two very talented teams.

Everton proved that a well organised small village school can compete with the best, while Ryton Park once again set the standard to beat and will certainly be back again next season.

Thanks go to Blyth Cricket Club for their hospitality and use of their excellent facilities.
