Top Parliament award for Keeley

Keeley Azar, 16, will represent the county nationally and regionally on issues that matter to young people today.

The North Notts College pupil will be campaigning for cheaper transport, providing more support for Post-16 College students and installing free Wi-Fi in all youth clubs.

“I am really looking forward to therole and getting stuck into debating some of the major issues that young people are concerned about,” she said.

“People in power need to listen to young people and act on our ideas; after all we are tomorrow’s voters and decision makers.”

Notts County Council’s chairman Coun Carol Pepper welcomed the newly-elected members in this month and wished them well during their two-year term of office.

This year’s elections saw a record 19,000 votes cast for the 45 candidates - also a record.

Said Coun Pepper: “What an inspirational group of people all under the same roof.”

“Everyone I have spoken to has a real passion to make a difference and to get things done. I am in doubt they will represent the county’s young people exceptionally well.”
