The Canal and River Trust is looking for a tenant to operate the moorings, which have space for around 12 boats, near the picturesque Torksey Lock.

The Fossdyke dates back to Roman times and is thought by some to be Britain’s oldest canal.

This history makes Torksey Lock a popular stopping point for boaters as does its position at the junction between the Fossdyke and the mighty River Trent.

Denise Barraclough from the Canal and River Trust said; “This is a great opportunity to manage, and potentially improve, moorings at one of Lincolnshire’s most historic and much-loved waterside spots. The moorings give people the opportunity to enjoy the best of Lincolnshire’s countryside whilst also having the essential shops, places to eat and other amenities close by.It really is a great spot to get away from it all and explore the county’s rich heritage so we’re expecting there to be a lot of interest from people wanting to manage the moorings.”

Whilst the moorings don’t have water or electricity they do have secure toilet and shower facilities nearby. There is also extensive car parking available for boaters to use.

Bids to manage the moorings are invited by 20th March 2015. Contact Denise Barraclough on 07717 785304 for more details and to arrange a viewing.
