Town band hits all the right notes

The Market Rasen Resdev Band have been blowing their own trumpets after enjoying a successful 2015.

Musical director David Denver said the senior band had made real progress during the last year.

“We got promotion in the Regional Band Competition two years ago and are now in the third section,” he said.

“We finished 11th out of 21 bands at Bedworth and we were well pleased with that. We also won a competition at Shirebrook Entertainment Centre.”

There were the usual dates in Caistor and Market Rasen for St George’s Day, Proms in the Park and Remembrance Sunday.

The future of the band looks good, too, with the junior section staging its first performance over the festive period.

The band has been practising on Sundays since May under the direction of long-serving bandsman Peter Wood.

There are currently 12 members and Mr Denver said it was great news the juniors were up and running to round-off a year of real progress.

“The youngest member who has played with them is aged six,” he said.

“It’s great news for the band as a whole and we can look forward to an even brighter future with young people involved.”

Both bands practice on Sundays and both sections are always looking for new members.
