Town council’s moves to protect Crowle facilities

Mayor Ron Stewart said that following a press report on potential closure of the rail station, the issue is of sufficient importance for the town council to ask the rail authorities for clarification.

The matter arose as a result of proposals to scrap the direct link from Cleethorpes to Manchester.

He said: “The ramifications for people who use the station for business purposes or going on holiday etcetera would be considerable. It would be difficult to understand the economics of a decision to close an unmanned station but we do need to know what is likely to happen.”

It was agreed to write to the rail authorities to ask about plans for the future of the line and Crowle station.

Changes to the sub-post office at McColl’s store in High Street, Crowle have attracted complaints, a council meeting heard.

Coun John Ramsden said people are complaining about lack of privacy when dealing with transactions. He said he felt the move of the post office counter from the rear of the shop to adjacent to store tills at the front was a “disgrace”.

Mayor Coun Ron Stewart said following discussion that the town council would write back to Post Office bosses noting their disappointment at a lack of response to concerns about the new positioning of the post office till.

He added: “It would seem that in putting these changes in place that they have not taken the local situation in to account at all,”
