Town school benefits from reward scheme

Every time customers at the Conging Street-based store use their reward cards, they help raise funds for local community projects.

Groups can apply to the Co-op’s head office in Manchester for a share of the money.

Last week, it was St Lawrence School which received a cheque for £2,800 from the scheme.

St Lawrence is part of the Lincolnshire Wolds Federation and caters for children between the ages of five and 16 with additional needs and associated learning difficulties.

Headteacher Michelle Hockham said the school was delighted to receive the money.

She confirmed it would go towards the running costs of the school’s mini bus - and helping pay for trips out.

She explained: “It can some times be difficult organising trips and days out for our students because of family circumstances or the individual needs of pupils.

“We do try to make sure students do get out and about and this money will definitely help.”

Mrs Hockham explained that last year, students enjoyed ‘residential’ visits to Norfolk and London. She said similar outings were already planned for 2018, along with other days out, designed to align with the curriculum.

Store manager Colin Pearson said the Co-op was delighted to ‘put something back into the local community’.

He revealed the next group to benefit from the reward scheme would be Horncastle Scouts. He urged other groups and organisations to apply for future funding.
