£700 raised for defibrillator

St John Ambulance badgers and cadets from Sleaford have taken part in a 24-hour CPR-a-thon to raise money for a new defibrillator that could help save lives locally.

The young fundraisers carried out 144,000 continuous chest compressions on resuscitation dummies for 24 hours over Valentine’s Day. Six badgers and 20 cadets took part in shifts, with help from 13 adults volunteers, friends and family.

More than £700 was raised as part of the charity’s national Donate for Defibs appeal and will go towards a new defibrillator at the charity’s Sleaford unit.

Jordan Herd, St John Ambulance Cadets unit manager, said: “It was an amazing turn out and somehow we kept going in shifts with a few naps in between. We were all pretty tired afterwards but really pleased that we’d raised so much.”
