Halfway point reached in Sleaford rugby club junction upgrade

Coun Richard Davies, executive member for highways, said works are progressing well: “Since starting back in May, the team has already installed nearly half a mile of new kerbs, over half a mile of new underground utility ducts and 330 tonnes of tarmac.

“We’ve also improved the road’s drainage and are now preparing for the installation of the junction’s 12 new traffic signal heads.”

Work over the past two months has included: construction of the embankment, kerbs, drainage and more at the A17 slip road, installing kerbing, drainage and footways on the west side of the A153, constructing sewer holes and completing street light boxes, columns and ducting on the west side, completing traffic signal ducting, kerbing and initial surfacing on the northern traffic island and reconstructing the carriageway on the A17 entry slip lane.

Over the coming months efforts will turn to the eastern side of the scheme, with new drainage, kerbing and street lighting, final surfacing and white lining ready for the autumn, when the project should improve safety and journey times.

Improvements to Holdingham Roundabout, with 
additional lanes and traffic lights are set to start in early 2021.

The total cost of the joint-funded schemes is £8.25m.
