Broadfield Street is currently closed near its junction with King Street as a result of the incident.

The disruption for motorists is expected to last into next week.

A spokesman for Anglian Water said: “In order to keep our teams and other road users safe while we work, we have closed a section of Broadfield Street, with a signposted diversion in place.

"Our engineers are carrying out a pressurised repair so we do not expect there to be any lasting disruptions to water supply, but if customers do experience low water pressure, or have no water, they can call us on 03457 145 145 or contact us via Facebook or Twitter.

"We expect to finish our work and re-open the road fully next week. We’d like to thank our customers for their patience while we carry out this vital repair.”
