Emergency services were called to the collisiion near Easton at 6.19 am this morning between the A607 (Harlaxton/Melton Mowbray Turn Off) and the A151 (Colsterworth Services Junction)..

A Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The central reservation has been crossed meaning both the north and southbound carriageways are affected. The road is currently closed in both directions.

“Two men have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

“We are very grateful for the patience of those affected and ask if you can, please avoid the area. We expect the closure to remain in place for the next couple of hours. This is due to the need for recovery of the vehicles, damage to roadside furniture, debris on the road and for us to conduct our scene investigation.”

Diverting traffic is causing congestion and slow moving queues in and around the Grantham area with tailbacks at Colsterworth and Great Gonerby and having a knock on effect to junctions such as Ancaster, Threekingham and Holdingham roundabout near Sleaford.

Chief Insp Phil Vickers has said following a review of previous A1 closures, they have new arrangements in place to coordinate their response and get traffic moving as quickly as it is safe and possible to do so.
