Seven-week project to improve A153 in Anwick announced
There will be night-time road closures for works to be carried out to improve the A153 in Anwick, near Sleaford, starting in July.
Lincolnshire County Council highways officials say this section of the A153 is starting to fail, and so requires major repairs, in the form of a complete road reconstruction.
As part of this, the engineering team be excavating a mile of the current carriageway and replacing it using over 6,000 tonnes of road-building materials.
While on-site, they will also be laying all new road markings and road studs, as well as undertaking six weeks of verge works to enable water to drain away, reducing water damage to the carriageway in the future. Coun David East, executive member for highways and local county councillor for Heckington, said: “We know roadworks can be frustrating, which is why we’ve carefully planned these improvements to take place overnight so the A153 can remain open in the day. By working through the night, we can deliver these much-needed repairs while ensuring residents, commuters and local businesses can continue to move around Anwick with as little impact as possible.”

He added: “Carrying these additional works out at the same time as rebuilding the road will not only save us money that can be used on other areas of the road network, but it also means less disruption for local Anwick residents and commuters thanks to us not needing to return to this stretch of road in near future.
“These improvements will offer tremendous benefits to Anwick residents, commuters, school transport and agricultural vehicles using the A153 on a daily basis. Not only will it mean smoother, safer journeys, but also a reduced likelihood of potholes and emergency repairs in the future thanks to the full reconstruction approach to the road.”
The crews will be working to the west of Anwick just northeast of Flatters House to just west of Greyhound Cottage from Monday July 13 for up to three weeks, then east of Anwick just east of Anwick Manor to the farm access connecting to Catchwater Drain from Monday August 3 for up to four weeks.
Night-time road closures will be from 7pm to 6am (weekday evenings only) throughout the project.
In addition to the night-time works, daytime temporary signals (8am to 4pm) will also be in place until late August to allow safe working space for works to the verge. West of Anwick: Monday July 27 for six days (weekdays only). East of Anwick: Monday August 17 for six days (weekdays only).
Diversions will be via A153 / B1395 / A17 / A153, vice versa.
Coun East added: “This project is part of our £12 million investment into maintaining Lincolnshire’s most strategically important roads and ensuring they remain safe, reliable and resilient for everyone who uses them.”
