Travel: Severe delays around M1 after serious smash

Three lanes of the M1 north bound are closed, as is the entry slip road at junction 31.

Roads in the surrounding area are grid locked with slow moving traffic.

Drivers are experiencing delays of more than an hour on parts of the M1 worst affected.

The M1 south bound carriageway is also congested with traffic from junction 32 for the M18 at Thurcroft and junction 31 for the A57.

Reports suggest that four or five vehicles were involved in a serious crash at around 7am.

Emergency services are on the scene providing medical help and clearing the debris.

Delays and carriageway closures should expected for most of the morning.
