Tributes paid to Boston area pilot who died in crash near Spilsby

The family of a Boston area man who died in an aircraft crash on Sunday have paid a moving tribute to him.

Pilot Simon Barrett, 55 died following the accident at Mavis Enderby, near Spilsby, on Sunday afternoon of Sunday 15th December.

Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene at around 1.23pm.

In a statement issued through Lincolnshire Police this afternoon, his family said: “There are no words to describe how heartbroken and devastated we are.

"Flying was Simon's number one hobby and he took every opportunity to take to the calm and peace of the sky whenever the weather permitted.

“He had been flying for around 30 years as well as enjoying DIY at home.

“Simon was a family man, a devoted, supportive and loving husband and Dad.

“We would like to thank everyone for their understanding and support at this very difficult time.”

The Air Accidents Investigation Branch is now leading the investigation into the crash and are being supported by Lincolnshire Police.

Police have appealed for witnesses who may have seen the crash or the aircraft in the area between 10.30am and 1pm.
