Tributes paid to young woman killed on A17 as petition for road safety gains momentum

Laura, who was in her 20s and from Boston, is believed to have been travelling in the car with “a Christmas tree and presents” and her two young nephews who are believed to be five and eight years old.

A tribute page has been created on Facebook for Laura and messages have poured in from family and friends.

A comment was posted by the person who made the “R I P Laura Pesterfield” page which read: “Laura was sadly taken today in a horrible car crash on the A17 and her two nephews are in hospital.”

Mark Pesterfield commented on a picture of Laura which said: “Love u always sis xxxxx”

One friend, Lolly Wrenn, commented: “You had so much planned I’m so sorry that’s been taken from you, you will never be forgotten babe love you so much and love and thoughts to all your family and the boys will be in my prayers, I know how much you adored them xxxxxx”

Victoria Louise Lodge‎ also commented: “Thoughts go out to the family and friends suffering such a tragic loss.

“Huge prayers for the two gorgeous boys. Let’s all pray for a Christmas miracle. Rest in Peace Laura xxx”

Road users have called the junction a “death trap” and following the fatal collision a petition has been started.

Nic Skinner, 28, started the petition addressed to Norfolk County Council in a bid to have a roundabout placed at the junction on the A17 in Norfolk.

The Change.org petition called “put a roundabout at station road junction and the A17 Norfolk” was set up on the day of the crash on Monday (21/12) and it already has 1,875 signatures.

It states that the junction is dangerous and Mr Skinner said: “I have got to ask myself just how many lives does it take before any action is taken.

“Back in 2014 the county council promised to look at this junction and make changes in the interests of safety.

“It is a death trap - this young girl is the fourth person to die there.

“She was an auntie and her two nephews she was with I think are five and eight.

“I just want the council to wake up because the word from the council is that there have no been enough accidents.

“One death should have been enough - they need to wake up.

“You can see the comments from everyone and everyone is saying it is about time the council did something.

“I just want to get as many signatures as possible and demand to see the person who can change it.

“The saddest thing about the whole story is the fire fighters found a Christmas tree and presents in the car.

“The firefighter said it was a total mess.

“It’s just heart breaking.

“There are accidents there nearly every week but no one hears about them until someone dies.”

Commenting on the petition John Rose said: “I use this junction twice a day and it’s a death trap.

“Other less dangerous junctions have had investment from Norfolk CC. Now after 35 years of use this needs sorting.”
