Tributes paid to ‘true gentleman’ found dead in Worksop canal

Tributes have poured in for a ‘true gentleman’ from Shireoaks who was found dead in Chesterfield Canal at Worksop yesterday (Monday 31 August).

The body of 71-year-old Greg Norwood, who had been missing since Monday August 28, was discovered at around 5pm.

Posting on social media, Maggie Owen, from Shireoaks, wrote: “I would see him in the village most days- a true gentleman.”

Andrea Pywell, from Shireoaks, said: “A lovely man. Will be missed in our village- RIP.”

Lauren Chase, from Lincoln, added: “Greg used to be my neighbour when I was little. It’s. terribly sad news. My condolences to his family and friends.”

Daniel Hancock, from Worksop, said: “This was outside my house. It’s so sad- will leave a floral tribute later.”

Kerry Gore, from Worksop, said: “I used to cut his hair. RIP Mr Norwood.”

Carolyn Smith said: “Very sad news. He was obviously a very well liked and respected man.”

Notts Police said that the the death was not being treated as suspicious and that Mr Norwood’s family had been informed.
