Tuxford: Local road labelled as one of the country’s most dangerous

The road was ranked seventh on the Road Safety Foundation’s (RSF) list of the top 10 most dangerous roads in the country, which was published today (Thursday, 24th October).

The road had 18 fatal or serious accidents on it between 2007 and 2011.

Top of the list was the A537 between Buxton and Macclesfield, which saw 44 serious or fatal accidents over the same time period.

Several of the other roads on the list are in and around the Peak District and the the study reveals the most dangerous region in Britain for A-road travel is the East Midlands while the safest is the West Midlands.

The RSF said that A-roads throughout Britain were, on the whole, seven times more dangerous than motorways.

RSF director Dr Steve Lawson said the report pointed out exactly where more effort was needed to reduce deaths and serious injury from road accidents.
