Two casualties from Easter horror smash '˜very poorly' say police

The news comes after two other occupants of the silver Astra and green VW Golf involved were killed in a horrific head-on smash on the A15 near Cranwell just after 10am on Monday.

A police spokesman said: “We are not yet able to name the two who died.”

She believed this information may be released later today (Wednesday) or early tomorrow, once relatives have all been informed and the victims have been officially identified.

Investigations continue into the cause of the collision which saw the driver of the Golf, a local man aged 63, pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, a woman aged 58, received serious injuries and was airlifted to hospital.

The driver of the Astra, a local man aged 63, was seriously injured and is currently in hospital. His passenger, a local woman aged 59, died shortly after the collision.

The Lincolnshire Police spokesman said: “The two casualties remain in the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nottingham described as in a very poorly condition.”

This brings the total number of deaths on Lincolnshire’s roads to 18 so far this year, compared to six at the same point in 2015.

The road was closed for nearly eight hours while emergency services, followed by crash investigators were on the scene. The Serious Collision Team are appealing for any witnesses who saw the green VW Golf or the silver Astra travelling prior to the collision.
