Notts Fire and Rescue Service wrote to hundreds of people inviting them to attend its briefing events and focus groups to explain the proposals.
“We have a variety of activities taking place during the three months of consultation,” said area manager Craig Parkin, who is leading the Fire Cover Review project and consultation.
“The first events that we invited people to attend have been held, and now we are hoping to be invited to meetings of other groups so that we can reach an even wider audience.”
“I think the people we have met have found the proposals interesting and we have enjoyed explaining the background to our ideas and debating some of the specific details.”
“I hope we have been able to give people greater confidence in what we are suggesting and reassurance that their safety is our top priority.”
The proposals include replacing two fire engines with a new type of vehicle to tackling lower impact incidents, and closing three retained sections at stations which will keep their whole time fire engines.
The consultation runs until Sunday 23rd October. Information about the proposals and a link to the online form can be found at www.notts-fire.gov.uk.

A report on the result of consultation will be considered by the Fire Authority at its meeting on 16th December, when decisions are expected to be made.
