Unexplained burnt out car discovered parked outside Worksop Library

A concerned Worksop resident has described her shock at discovering a completely burnt out car parked next to Worksop Library.

The woman, who did not wish to be named, came across the severely damaged vehicle on her way to work in the town centre this morning (Thursday 23rd July) at around 9am.

She said: “The car was burnt to a crisp and I had to go for a closer look. There were lots of people gathered around it and we tried to look at the registration number but it was completely burnt off.”

Firefighters from Worksop Fire Station said they received a call at 08:56am this morning and found the abandoned car well alight. The fire was extinguished in around four minutes.

It is currently unclear how the car caught fire and it is too damaged to be identified. It is understood that the car will towed away by Bassetlaw Council later today.

A spokesperson for Worksop Library, which is based on Memorial Avenue, said: “The car does not belong to any of our staff. It was a bit unsettling to see as we arrived for work this morning.”

Anyone with information is asked to call Notts Police on the non-emergency 101 number.
