UPDATE 5pm: Disruption eases as lorry released from bridge

TRAIN services are expected to resume soon between Worksop and Retford.

Engineers have successfully dislodged a lorry from underneath a railway bridge on the B6079 Retford Road.

They had been working for almost five hours to free the vehicle, which struck the bridge and became stuck just after 12 noon today, Monday 17th December.

Northern Rail train services were suspended in both directions between Worksop and Retford, with rail replacement buses carrying passengers between Worksop and Lincoln Central.

The lorry was released just before 5pm.

A spokesman for Network Rail said lines and the road would re-open once safety inspections had been carried out.
