UPDATE: A1 reopens after man airlifted to hospital following car flip

A serious collision involving an overturned car closed part of the A1 to the north of Grantham this morning, Thursday February 25.

The crash took place at 7.40am and initially one lane was blocked northbound between the B1174 Great North Road and Toll Bar Road.

Police then shut the northbound carriageway between the A52 (Barrowby) and the B1174 (Gonerby Moor).

One lane of the southbound carriageway was also closed to allow for recovery work to be carried out.

The driver of the car has been taken to Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham by Air Ambulance. His injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police have now cleared the lanes and the carriageway has reopened in both directions.
