UPDATE: Fire at Kirton Holme caused by ‘electrical fault’

The fire at Kirton Holme this morning (Thursday) was caused by an electrical fault, it has been confirmed.

A Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue spokesman said, however, that the exact nature of the fault was unknown due to the severity of the fire.

Thursday, 11.37am - The ‘large-scale’ fire at Kirton Holme is now out and the road is set to re-open shortly.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the blaze has been put out and the smoke has now gone.

The A52, which was closed both ways from Drayton to B1192 Station Road, is also expected to be re-opened shortly.

A spokesman for the service said a lot of damage was caused to the building but no-one was injured.

Earlier reports of a ‘explosions’ are believed to have been the sound of materials on the roof burning, while other reports of another nearby building catching fire have been denied by the service.

Investigations into the cause are still ongoing.

Thursday, 10.26am – Seven appliances are in attendence at a fire at a large agricultural building in Kirton Holme this morning (Thursday), fire services have confirmed.

A spokesman from Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue confirmed the service was called to the ‘large-scale fire’ at 9.30am.

Crews from Boston, Kirton, Donington, Leverton, Sleaford, Billingborough and Sleaford are on scene and using an aerial platform to deal with the fire.

People have been warned to stay inside and close their doors and windows.

Thursday, 10.06am - A large fire has broken out at a large premises in Kirton Holme this morning (Thursday) - prompting the council to warn people to stay indoors.

Readers have been contacting the Standard about the blaze, which a police spokesman confirmed was being attended by fire and rescue crews.

The premise is believed to be Holme Farm Produce Packing, on Boston Road, in Kirton Holme.

A Boston Borough Council spokesman has also confirmed the fire, they said: “Emergency services are dealing with a substantial farm fire in the Kirton Holme area.

“There is a large smoke plume.

“As a precautionary measure residents in the area have been advised to stay indoors and close their doors and windows. More information will be issued as soon as it is available.”

People are reportedly being evacuated.

Smoke is visible from the town centre, with readers saying they can see it as far as Spilsby, East Keal and Sleaford directions.
