Update: Lincolnshire County Council continues battle against malware attack

The council are requesting that customers only call if ‘absolutely necessary’.

It had previously been hoped that a phrased restoration of the system would taken place yesterday evening, but the issue has continued into its third day despite the best efforts of IT staff and testing is ongoing.

Lincolnshire County Council are today (January 27) continuing to tackle a ‘malware’ security incident which hit the council’s IT systems yesterday evening.

A council spokeswoman said that the malware was delivered to significant numbers of council staff via an email, and that security procedures were immediately put into practice once the issue had been identified.

It is hoped that the IT system will be restored in phases later throughout the day after a current solution has been tested, and council staff have been told not to access their computers or emails in the meantime.

The spokeswoman said that the council has “acted quickly, and managed to prevent data loss”.

She added that there was “no evidence” to support claims in other news outlets which suggested that private data may have been accessed.
