UPDATE: Ram raiders did not escape with cash machine from Harthill Co-op, police say

Police have confirmed that ram raiders did not escape with the cash machine from a Harthill supermarket on Thursday morning.

Officers were called at around 3am on 8th January to a Co-op store on Union Street.

Several vehicles, including a large JCB type vehicle, rammed the front of the shop, in a bid to remove the cash machine.

It is believed that the suspects were unable to remove the machine successfully and a short time later, the vehicles reportedly left the scene.

A police spokesman said: “A Mazda flatbed pick-up type vehicle was recovered close-by. Enquiries are continuing in the community.”

A number of police resources were sent to the scene after members of the public reported the suspicious activity.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or witnessed vehicles driving at speed in the area before and after the incident, is asked to call police on 101 quoting incident number 65 of 8 January 2015.
