Vandals trash golf course

MINDLESS vandals stole a Land Rover and took it on a rampage through Worksop Golf Course - causing over £15K worth of damage.

Thieves stole the vehicle from M S Cars on Kilton Road around 4.30am on Tuesday and drove it to the golf club where serious damage was caused to exterior fencing and the 13th fairway.

Considerable damage was also causing to fencing along the A57 nearby.

The Land Rover discovery was later found abandoned with the engine running behind the B&Q warehouse in Worksop around 6am.

Worksop Golf Club secretary Alan Mansbridge said he was disgusted by the incident which he labelled ‘the worst’ the club had ever seen.

“Given the extent of the damage and they way they ploughed down the steep slope onto the bypass, I am amazed these people are still alive,” he said.

“This has totally shocked the club and the individual or people responsible for it want locking up.”

“The 13th fairway is completely damaged and it’s going to be several months before our golfers can use it again.”

M S Cars manager Steve Ackroyd said the thieves stole 20 car batteries and a set of tyres from the premises as well taking the Land Rover Discovery and ramming it through the security gate.

“We are just so gutted because this is the sixth time we have been affected,” he said.

“It’s particularly upsetting as the Land Rover belonged to one of our young apprentices who’d been saving for seven months to buy it.”

“We recovered the vehicle on Tuesday morning but unfortunately it’s a total write-off.”

He added: “Those responsible for it are idiots - they didn’t really know what they are doing.”

Anyone who has information about the incident should contact Notts Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
