Vaughan runs for hospices

GAINSBOROUGH Town Councillor Vaughan Hughes has got his running shoes on for the BUPA 10k in London this weekend.

Coun Hughes is running to raise funds for Help For Hospices, which he says is a cause close to many people’s hearts.

“My sister volunteers at St Barnabas Hospice in Morton so I have an idea about the kind of services they offer,” said Coun Hughes.

“Hospices are very much reliant on donations and charity to keep them going, very little comes from the Government.”

“Help For Hospices is a good cause because it will help local hospices as well as those all over the country.”

“I’m sure a lot of people will have known someone who has benefited from hospice work.”

Last year Coun Hughes completed the Great North Run for the Stroke Association.

Now he’s gearing up for the BUPA 10k which he will run with old school friend Mick Mannion, who has himself recovered from cancer.

“The course takes in some of the London Marathon route, so I’m really looking forward to it,” said Coun Hughes.

“I hope people will get behind me and make a donation - no matter how small.”
