Nathan’s previous work has included incredible likenesses of everything from Mickey Mouse to Michael Jackson.
The 34-year-old dad of two, a former maths teacher now part-time illustrator, was challenged by Meadowhall bosses to come up with something special to mark Shrove Tuesday at the centre - where pancakes will be served at outlets including Frankie and Benny’s, Ed’s Diner and Giraffe.
He’s based in the USA but they contacted him because of his global reputation as the best there is.
Nathan explained he began making fun pancakes a few years ago, to entertain is two young children. At that time he used a spoon to shape pancake batter into themed designs like apes, insects, and even pop culture icons.
Now he uses a squeeze bottle to produce finer details and he has notched up almost 200 pancake creations.
He shares his pancakes on social media platforms like YouTube, where he has hundreds of thousands of video views - see youtube.com/user/saipancakes/videos.
Nathan is also planning a book to show others how to copy his skills. He lives in Port Angeles, Washington, but he is demand all over the world and said the Sheffield pancake was fun to make.
He said: “The domed architecture was fun to render as a pancake, though I ended up making several attempts and was quite full by the end.
“I started creating pancakes like this a few years ago.I was put in charge of the kids and one day I thought we’d have some fun making breakfast.
“The next time, I tried a little harder and people liked the photos on Facebook. It’s been exciting reading the comments and reactions on social media.
“It has become a weekly tradition and now my kids are requesting making their own. It’s about sharing something special with my kids. It’s a fun experience we can do together.”
