Susie Trueman, 43, from Mablethorpe wanted the proposal to be ‘epic’ for her The Libertines crazed boyfriend, James Madge, 30.

After spending five months trying to get in contact with The Libertines agent, Susie struck lucky on the morning of the concert thanks to social media site Twitter.

Whilst James was still sleeping, completely clueless of the events that were due to unfold, Susie spent the whole day as a nervous wreck, wondering if her idea would come off. She had no confirmation that The Libertines were going to help.

So concert night soon came round at The 3Arena on Thursday - with the ring in her pocket waiting to see what would happen.

To her surprise Pete Doherty and Carl Barât soon shouted James’ name on stage and both said that Susie wanted to marry him.

“I was in such a state on disbelief and shock and was thinking to myself, ‘is this really happening’,” James commented.

“I initially thought they were saying my name, because it was my 30th birthday the day before, I was quite confused.

“I couldn’t help but scream and I was thinking my heroes are on stage saying my name, this is amazing.”

Susie added: “I was so nervous all night and James knew something was wrong, but I just told him I was nervous about the gig.

“I had no clue at the time, whether The Libertines were going to do anything or not, but I just wanted to make the proposal epic for James, as he is an amazing person.

“The crowd was going mad and the response when Pete and Carl made the announcement was something I will never forget. I think I have now earned myself brownie points for the rest of my life.”
