Shane Swan, 45, from East Kirkby has taken a leap forward for Star Wars fans everywhere and has added a new addition to the family.

It took Shane a year-and-a-half to build R2-D2 which had no connection at the time to the new film.

But as the movie hit the big screen recently, Shane took the robot down to the Kinema in the Woods in Woodhall Spa for their opening night of Star Wars and as this video shows - R2-D2 is seen making its way to the refreshment counter.

Shane explained: “I am a big Star Wars fan and have seen all of the films (including the newest film) and have always wanted to build one.

“Being creative and building things is a hobby of mine and I got my skills from previous years of building robots - I was even featured on Robot Wars in 2001.

“But now R2-D2 is the newest member of the family and I took him down for the opening night of the film at Kinema in the Woods - my favourite, local cinema and he is still there now, enjoying many selfies with his fans.

“He has even had a game of bowling at The Mirage in Mablethorpe and will make a return visit once the film hype has died down.”

Now the film excitement is in full swing, Shane is now contemplating building his BB8.

Mr Swan added: “After seeing the newest film, which I thought was brilliant, I am thinking about building my own BB8, but I have not yet fully decided whether to go ahead with this possible new project or not.”

R2-D2 still remains at The Kinema in the Woods, so why not pop on down and see it.
