The British Heart Foundation Furniture and Electrical store opened on Bridge Place has had a successful first week.

The charity says it hopes to become a destination for people wanting affordable second hand household goods.

With sofas from £85, beds from £40 and washing machines from £50 it is sure to pull in the bargain-hunters.

And all the money raised from the store will fund the British Heart Foundation’s pioneering research towards eradicating heart disease for good.

A spokesman said: “All the money raised will help fund essential research which could create a better future for so many - from babies born with heart defects, to the millions of adults affected by heart disease.”

“The large store has new items on display daily, and sells a huge range of pre-owned, new, and vintage goods.”

“We still need more donations and are appealing to everyone in the local community to have a root around in their home and donate any unwanted items,” said Chris Ward, BHF area manager. “Don’t forget we offer a free collection service for larger household items, having a clear out has never been so easy.”

BHF clinical research training fellow Tim Ellan added: “When you consider that selling two sofas could fund one of our young scientists for a whole day, it really puts it into perspective how much this store can help those in need.”

Area manager Chris Ward, featured in the video, urged people to donate items or volunteer to help out in the shop.
