The amusement park opened for the season on Saturday with new rides and a completely refurbished pyramid.

It is the most investment seen on the site for two decades and marks the beginning of its redevelopment by Mellors Group Fantasy Island Holdings Ltd who took over in March last year.

New attractions include a multi-platform themed indoor mini golf course, an American style bowling alley and six new junior and family rides. Europe’s largest seven-day market has also seen a facelift, with upgrades in product variation.

The investment follows a successful first season, which saw the return of the extreme ride GForce.

Director of Finance, Claire Draper said: “The significant capital investment that we have committed this winter is the most the site has seen in nearly two decades. It is a huge undertaking with numerous projects to be completed in a short time-frame and we are excited to re-open and unveil the new Fantasy Island,”

The amusement park is now gearing up for the first big event of the season on April 1. James Mellors said: “Announcing a significant investment for 2017 is our vote of confidence in our great management and staff team, in Fantasy Island as a visitor attraction with amazing potential and in Skegness and Lincolnshire as a fabulous holiday and day-trip destination and as a place to live.”

Edward Mellors said: “This is not a one-off investment, it’d the first. Our commitment is long-term.”
