Fresh from her success in the National Television Awards, Sheridan handed out awards - and a birthday bouquet to her mother Marilyn, before ending the evening on a musical high note.

A full programme of entertainment included powerful songs from Kay Gale and energetic routines from the ENA Dance Academy troupe. They were joined by Epworth’s Olivia Strong, on the occasion that honours her brother Alexander for the extraordinary courage he showed during his short life.

Isle band The Torn injected huge energy in to the night, belting out hit after hit to create an electric atmosphere and and fill the dance floor.

Chair of Pride of the Isle committee Leesa Sharpe has been inundated with requests for tickets for next year’s event since Saturday’s success and said: “We only hear of the bad in this world but this night we saw just how many wonderful and inspirational people there are.”

Alexander’s mum, Maxine Strong thanked everyone for working hard to keep Alexander’s memory alive. She congratulated award winners as people who, like Alexander, “refuse to be beaten by the cruelty of life.”
