Video: Singing Dinnington plumber releases England World Cup 2014 song

Paul Ballington, 36, of Throaphem, produced England in Brazil with a couple of his friends in Laughton, Rotherham, and he is hoping it will take the nation by storm.

The father of two, who attended Dinnington Comprehensive School, bought his first guitar in his 20s and he has been writing songs for special occasions ever since.

Paul, who is known to his friends as the ‘singing plumber,’ said: “England has not a decent World Cup song since the Three Lions in 1996.”

“The reaction so far has been really good.”

“It has been played on BBC Radio 5 Live and on Kiss FM in Portugal of all places.”

“My dad lives over there so I think he sent it to them.”

“The song itself did not tale that long to put together, after I had got down a few lines the rest just followed.”

At Christmas Paul put together a Christmas song for PACT (Parents Association of Children with Tumours and Leukaemia).

The song raised enough money to take children from Sheffield Children’s Hospital out to Sundown Adventure Land for the day.

“The Christmas song sort of put me on the map,”Paul said.

“My first song was called Ten Pints of Carling and that got a lot of hits on Youtube.”

“I also produced a song for a best man’s speech for one of my friends wedding which went down really well.”

His new release has had over 3,500 views so far and it has been shared on Twitter by ex-England international Carlton Palmer.

“It is a catch tune.”

“I always had a feeling right from the start that it could take off.”

“The idea was to give it that Brazillian and samba feel about it.”

“I am hopeful that with a month to go until the World Cup that it can get even bigger as we get closer.”

“The only downside is that I have lyrics relating to Ashley Cole and Andros Townsend in there but they are not in the squad.”
