VIDEO: Staff strike at Metsa Wood

Union members yesterday (Thursday) took strike action following a dispute over pay at a timber plant company which has a base in Boston.

Members of GMB, the union for workers in the furniture and timber industry, are currently holding am overtime ban at Metsa Wood Timber - formerly Finnforest.

They joined Metsa’s other site in Widnes, in Cheshire, after recently rejecting a pay offer of 0.8 per cent from the company – voting instead in favour of strike action.

Metsa employs around 514 employees and supplies companies such as B&Q.

The strike started at 5.30am at the Old Golf Course, on Fishtoft Road, in Boston, and was planned to go on until 5.30am this morning (Friday).

The video above shows the staff on strike and includes a brief interview with David Shamma, the regional officer for the GMB.

A Metsa spokesman has confirmed the company has ‘no comment on this matter at present’.
