Video: Unveiling of memorial bench for district and town councillor

A special memorial bench has been unveiled in memory of a dedicated Gainsborough Town and West Lindsey District Councillor who died suddenly last year.

Melvyn Lionel Starkey, 61, who was commonly known as Mel, had an illustrious career in politics and served as both district and town councillor for many years.

He was remembered fondly by those who knew him following his sudden death in October last year.

And now a lasting memorial to Mel has been created, in the form of a memorial bench in Marshall’s Yard.

Family, friends and former colleagues gathered for a short ceremony to unveil the plaque and remember Mel on Wednesday (23rd October).
