Video: Worksop Mum’s terror as baby stops breathing on Christmas Day after home visit refusals from medical centre

Emergency services were called to one-year-old Rosie’s Worksop home on Christmas Day after her family were distraught to discover she had stopped breathing and turned blue.
The tot had been displaying flu-like symptoms for days but was refused a home visit by staff at the nearby Newgate Medical Group centre, Newgate Street, despite requests from mum Rebecca Binnington.

“However, the medicine didn’t seem to work and her illness got worse. I called the medical centre repeatedly and asked for a home visit which was refused. I don’t drive and there was no way I was going to walk there in the freezing cold when she was so poorly.
“It was a terrifying experience that could have been avoided if I hadn’t been ignored.”
It was revealed that Rosie’s airways were blocked due to a build up of mucus brought on by the flu, but she has since been discharged from hospital and is on the road to recovery.

Shelia Smith, practice manager, said: “We have arranged to meet with Rebecca to discuss the matter. We do not think it appropriate to discuss this publicly.”
