Village Hall to get new floor

It will cost £10,000 to replace and trustees have succeeded in raising the necessary funds through receiving grants of £1,000 from Clarborough Parish Council, and £6,377 from The Veolia Environmental Trust awarded through the Landfill Communities Fund.

The additional cost of the work has been raised by the community association itself.

The hall will close on Monday 3rd October to enable the improvements to begin and it is expected to take three weeks to complete.

A new maple hardwood will be used to replace the original pine flooring. It has an expected lifespan in excess of 50 years, twice that of the pine.

The main hall is a popular venue for community activities, groups and events in Clarborough. All the groups were consulted about the hall’s closure, and it was agreed that the closure was welcome with the promise of a new floor.

Hon. Secretary of The Clarborough District Community Association, Robert Stockdale said: “All the trustees offer their apologies for the hall’s closure, but the floor needs replacing and there is no other way for it to be done.”

“The new floor will be fantastic and it’ll make a huge difference to the safety of the hall, and its appearance.”

Executive Director of The Veolia Environmental Trust, Margaret Cobbold added: “I am looking forward to seeing the essential improvements be made to this popular village hall. Village halls are at the heart of a community’s spirit. With a new floor this hall will be able to continue to provide the great service it provides for its local community.”
