Clean for The Queen aims to give the country a tidy-up ahead of The Queen’s 90th birthday in April.

The campaign is centred on a weekend of activity from March 4 to 6, 2016.

The council is encouraging and supporting groups and individuals who want to ‘do their bit’ to help clear up the litter that blights our streets, parks and beaches.

WLDC leader Jeff Summers said: “We are delighted to be supporting Clean for The Queen and we would encourage as many groups, individuals and organisations in the district to take part.

“We have pledged our commitment to this initiative and any events planned by parish councils, volunteer groups, community groups and residents.

“We are offering equipment such as litter picking sticks, hi-vis vests, gloves and some ‘Clean for the Queen bags’ which can be used on the day of an event.”

The council has also agreed to collect any bags which need disposing of.

WLDC prosperous communities committee chairman Owen Bierley said: “Community groups have already started to pledge their support.

“The Keelby Clean Up group was the first in West Lindsey to register to take part in the Clean for the Queen campaign.

“In Walesby, 35 volunteers have signed up for an event and a community group in Riby are in the process of arranging a litter-pick, which is all great news.

“If you are planning an event don’t forget to share your stories and pictures with us on our Facebook and Twitter pages.

“We would love to see what community groups are
doing.”

Clean for The Queen campaign director Adrian Evans said: ‘We hope a million people will join us in a mass litter pick to give our beautiful country the facelift it deserves.”

Litter is a problem that councils across the UK spend the best part of £1billion clearing up every year.
