Organised by the Sturton-by-Stow History Society, the open day was a huge hit with young and old alike.

The theme of the main displays was trades and tradesmen, with many articles and photographs showing the variety of businesses that were a part of the villages over the past hundred years.

Clearly Sturton was a very self-sufficient village with local butchers, general stores, joiners and builders, tinsmiths and blacksmiths as well as haulage and farm produce.

One well-known regular was milkman Bill Hudson from Willingham. Known to everyone affectionately as Milky Bill, he delivered milk to the village for many years.

He was renowned for his perseverance - even in the worst possible weather conditions.

As well as the displays, a slide show showing many aspects of village life was permanently rolling helping to revive memories of the village in years gone by.

Refreshments were available throughout the day and a prize raffle concluded the event.

The history society meets in Sturton Village Hall on the third Wednesday of every month.

There is no meeting in August, so the next meeting will take place on Wednesday 18th September. All are welcome to attend.
